Ingredients

Group: Ingredients
  • 12 oz. dried spaghetti, cooked al dente
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • ½ cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese for the meatballs
  • 1 large egg, whisked
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp. fresh parsley, chopped
  • 4 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking dish
  • Baking sheet

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, whisked egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Shape into meatballs and place on a lined baking sheet.
  3. Drizzle olive oil over meatballs and bake for about 20 minutes, or until browned.
  4. While meatballs are baking, cook spaghetti in salted water until al dente, then mix with marinara sauce.
  5. In a baking dish, layer half the spaghetti mixture, followed by meatballs. Top with remaining spaghetti and cover with mozzarella cheese and Parmesan.
  6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Make sure the pasta is al dente before mixing with the sauce to avoid mushiness during baking.
