- Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add maple syrup, eggs, and maple extract; mix until combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually incorporate into the wet mixture without overmixing.
- Refrigerate the dough for at least one hour before baking.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Shape the dough into balls and roll in maple sugar if desired. Place on prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are golden brown.
- Cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
